3 Benefits Of Being A Shopaholic

Wait what did that say? There are benefits of being a shopaholic? Why actually yes there are. When you think of the word shopaholic what's the first thing that comes to mind? Thanks to movies, television, and maybe even your own personal experience it's probably mounds of credit card debt. While this is unfortunately sometimes the case, it isn't always a fact. I am a self proclaimed shopaholic and while I did run up some debt for a brief period of time, I have learned how to continue shopping to my hearts content by giving myself a budget. It's really funny to even say the word budget considering I used to hate the word, but it's a necessary thing to have if you don't want your little addiction to get you into trouble. Everyone has to have something they love and are passionate about so why not shopping?! Is it possible that shopping can actually be beneficial to you? Yes it can! There are 3 benefits of being a shopaholic as long as you follow a few simple rules. Rules? Who said anything about rules? Ok so maybe they're more like guidelines but you get the point. Are you ready for me to stop rambling and get to the point? LOL you got it...

#1 It makes you happy
Anytime I'm feeling down and depressed shopping always seems to lift my spirits and make me feel better. There's something about bringing home a new outfit that puts a smile on my face and for a brief moment makes me forget about my troubles. I especially love to go shopping after a long hard week at work. I call this my retail therapy and to me it is exactly that. The one little rule to this benefit is to make sure to leave the credit cards at home and take only a predetermined amount of cash with you. Depression has a way of making you want to fill the void with a bunch of unneeded items and while that's great with a small purchase or two, you will be even more depressed when you get home and realize you didn't really want all the stuff you bought or maybe you did but the credit card bill will certainly be a bummer. Being a shopaholic on a budget makes me super happy :)

#2 You will always know what's in style
Whether you are always buying the newest hottest items or not just by being in the store you can't help but see all the new stuff so naturally you will be one step ahead of everyone else. I love going into a new store every week and seeing what they have even if it's just to look. I'm not going to lie, I normally buy something but I say it's for my blog and that makes me feel better about it. LOL But, I never go over budget and I always have the latest styles in my closet. I actually feature a different store every week to show you what's hot right now just in case you didn't already know. There's an example of one of these posts HERE. The rule to this benefit is to hit up the sales as often as possible. Stores put items on the clearance rack well before the season is actually over so you can find amazing deals there all time. Also there's always a sale somewhere. Just last weekend there were several stores featuring BOGO and 40% off entire store sales. It's a great way to stay stylish within your budget.

#3 It's a great conversation starter
Have you ever been asked where you got an item you were wearing? This happens to me all the time and I absolutely love sharing my finds with others...this is of course the whole reason I started my little blog in the first place. Nothing starts a conversation off quite like "hey where did you get those shoes?" or "did you hear about the awesome sale they are having at Nordstrom today? You should definitely check it out." It gives me a sense of pride knowing that someone liked my outfit enough to ask me about it. The rule with this one is simple...don't be a jerk! If someone asks where you got something tell them. It's so rude when a person ignores you or actually says that they aren't telling. What's the big secret? Do you think I can't afford to shop where you do or are you too embarrassed to say you got it at the thrift shop? Which by the way shouldn't be an embarrassment!! Always be proud of what you're wearing because someone out there will love it as much as you do. Sharing with others where you purchased something will show you have pride in what you're wearing and it makes the person you told feel good too. Not to mention it's just the polite thing to do. It's all about networking and making new friends :)

Well that pretty much sums it up. 3 benefits of being a shopaholic and a few rules, I mean guidelines, to follow. Are you a shopaholic? What do you feel are the pros and cons of shopping too much? Can you relate to this post? I'd love to hear from you so leave me a comment and let me know what you think. Be sure to share this post with your shopaholic friends and put a smile on their face. I hope you have an amazing weekend and happy shopping :)

    1. It's annoying when someone doesn't want to tell you where they got something. I've had people act like I was being rude for asking when in actuality it was a compliment. Thank you marette ❤ yes my closet is super full lol

  3. I love the 'thrill of the hunt' of shopping for a bargain. And yes, I'm totally that person that when someone compliments me I immediately tell them where I got it and how much it cost. haha

  8. I wish I could be a shopaholic!! My family is in poverty so our money goes for food for the kids but I would love to have clothes. I have like four shirts I go through. I would love a whole new wardrobe where I could wear things that make me feel pretty and then I'd have better confidence with what I wear

    1. I'm really sorry that your family is going through some financial difficulties. Keep working hard and one day it'll all pay off and you will have money to go shopping as much as you like. Also I've hit up clearance at stores like Walmart and even forever 21 and have gotten things for less than $5. You don't always have to spend a lot to look great. It's all about working with what you already have. Things will get better. Just have faith and believe❤
